Fractionated Coconut Oil is something we've recently discovered, perfect for dreadlocks but what is it?

fractionated coconut oil

You'll be very exited to learn, that fractionated coconut oil is like the THC of the coconut world. I'd never heard of it, but the more i read, the more i was amazed that i'd just found something that was revolutionising the health benefits of coconut.

We've been experimenting with different types of coconut oil and found this to be the most absorbent and beneficial to the scalp.

Why coconut oil on dreadlocks at all?

Coconut oil (classified as a superfood) offers a vast number of health benefits for skin, brain, diet and scalp. Yep, those of you with scalp irritation. Coconut oil works the whole spectrum. But more importantly for everyones benefit, its high absorbency with its ability to moisturise hair. So much so, that there is literally nothing remaining to build residue. Thumbs up right away!

Its the purest form of coconut oil for hair and skin

Let's break it down for you...
For those of you not in the know, there are two types of coconut oil on the market
"Refined Coconut oil" AND "Virgin Coconut Oil"

Virgin coconut oil being less refined, yep 'less refined' than refined coconut oil, but is still refined. The only truly unrefined, unprocessed, natural, raw, pure and untouched coconut oil is still in the coconut. The problem with using just the coconut mean is that is has a very short shelf life.  The only way to get coconut oil, is to extract the oil from the coconut. If anything is called 'coconut oil' in whatever form, it is refined by nature. But thats the only real difference between the two.

The main benefit of refined oil over less refined is that it isn't prone to a short shelf life and going rancid if not used quick enough. This also concentrates its health benefits.

Fractionated Benefits over other oils

Fractionated coconut oil is essentially done by removing the lauric acids using natural methods (steam extraction) maintaining its focused natural qualities. The result is a higher level of the benefits relative to dreadlocks in the remaining properties. This makes it much higher in antioxidant and disinfecting qualities AND absorbency!

It can be digested, used on skin for massage, scalp to sooth irritation

  • Cooling scalp to prevent sever scalp sweating
  • Keeps hair moist to prevent breakage (by absorption, not coating the hair)
  • Reduces protein loss as an added breakage prevention
  • Remains in liquid for even in a refrigerator (unlike other coconut oils)
  • Handles high heat for UV protection
  • Reduces 'grease feel'
  • Higher absorbency
  • Longer Life
  • High Natural Antiseptic
  • Kills harmful pathogens
  • Hair loss preventative
  • Get rid of dandruff
  • Odor free (unlike other coconut oils)

This list goes on. As a result, we've been working hard on sourcing the very best in fractionated coconut oil and we will be releasing it at some point 2015!
